...But I Go Anyway
When I walk through these woods, I start off on the trail, but the fun adventure lies off the trail, by foot. So I go through the thick brush to see things I've never seen. I'm in undiscovered (by me) parts of my friends property and I have no idea what awaits my feet. I can't see the ground because of all the overgrowth. All I see are leaves, fallen branches, overgrown plants and the darkness beneath. Will I step in sloppy mud that pulls my boot down inside it and trips me up? Will I step on a slick log? For all I know I could be stepping on a criiter. And this is every single step! Am I on a level of dirt blocked in by a fallen log only to cross that log and fall into a hole? The only sounds I can hear are the dogs running around and the water from the stream crawling away in the distance.
I would say one of the most facinating aspect of being in th evergreens of Shelton, WA is that from out of nowhere, a sloppy mudpuddle will just be there.
